A fixture refers to anything in a home that has water flowing to it. A toilet, a sink, a hot water tank, a dishwasher, a bathtub; these are all examples of plumbing fixtures. Plumbers know the importance of keeping our fixtures operating like they should. Blockages, clogs, back flow issues and drainage are all things that a clog at fixing on a daily basis. When you get to the house stand if front of the toilet and locate the water shut off valve. Should be down below the toilet on the wall. If there is remaining water line repair get it out with paper towels or a rag. The important thing is that no more water came in. If it did then your valve is not shut all the way or not working and you need additional help.
After you have the stems out you should be able to find the washer on the "inside" end. If it is nicked, torn or brittle it is likely the cause of your drip. Even if it looks brand new, go ahead and replace it. You've already come this far. You can get replacement washers at almost any hardware store. Sometimes you may want to replace the whole stem, especially if the handle end is stripped out. It's best to just take the stem with you to the store and see if you can match it up. Most Do It Yourself stores have replacement stems for many popular brands. If your valve has a center diverter valve to switch the waterfrom the tub spout to the shower head the same process applies. Many times it is easier to replace the diverter stem than to repair it. This really depends on the design of the stem.
Working on the gas lines is also a complex job that only a licensed plumber can handle because it is very dangerous. Small leaks can't always be detected by odor alone, but a licensed professional has the proper equipment that's needed to ensure that you don't have any leaks in the line.
Check that your plug holes and waste outlets are clear of hair and solidified soap also check the "U" bends or traps under your sinks for potential blockages. Occasionally pour boiling water line repair down your sinks and shower wastes not forgetting the washing machine trap. Look outside too for any weeds or leaves that may be blocking gutters, gully's and waste outlets.
Plumbers, contractors, landscapers, and related professionals are often indexed by numerous online websites eager for you to visit their "directory". Each field will have their own group of websites competing for your attention. In the end these "Plumbers Directories" are often incomplete, and frequently provide little more information than the phone book.
Then, you can take your new shower parts home and reinstall them in the inner assembly. It is very important that everything be aligned properly and tightened to prevent leaks. Beware of over tightening, however, since this can also cause problems. Once you are sure everything is installed properly, replace the cover plate and turn the water back on to test your repair work. With a little bit of work, your do-it-yourself shower repair project can be a success. It does not take an expert, just a little effort and know how.
